If there's something that most people know about the Duncans, its that we love Jesus, we have served for many years in ministry and that we love Star Wars! So of course, when May the 4th rolls around, we are hopeful to celebrate!!
Back in 2017, when my boys had their joint Star Wars Party! We still have those light sabers lol....
This year I had so many plans for a fun May the 4th Celebration! Then- life got hectic! We had prom the weekend before so I was still running ragged trying to catchup from being gone over the weekend. On top of that, now our weekly schedule includes ball practice on Sunday night and game on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so we have been very- very busy. However, I did try hard to squeeze in a little something special on Thursday, then again on Saturday, so I wanted to take some time and share our hits- and our miss lol, and some fun things that I found online I wanted to try but didn't get the chance!
Lunch- Death Star Mini Pizzas!
These mini biscuit pizzas are absolutely delicious! We made them first in VBS last year, so
I thought I would take it and put a Star Wars spin on it by adding the pepperoni in a spot to be the super lazer that makes the Death Star so distinguishable!
Easy directions: Flatten out refrigerator biscuits (I like to use "Butter me not" biscuits!) put a spoonful of pizza sauce and top with shredded mozzarella. Add the pepperoni (and any other toppings you like!) and bake at 350 until the biscuit is brown and the cheese is melted!
These were so yummy! I had to make two batches!
My next idea was a little ambitious.. but sounded fun!
Any real Star Wars fan will remember that Blue milk was a staple for mealtime on Tattooine!
I needed something kind of simple for dessert- and because of our baseball game I didn't get to have the dessert on Thursday as I would have hoped, so we decided to try it Saturday while we had some time to space. My husband and my sons were busy watching the coronation and Hey Arnold, so while I was cooking I decided the Star Wars themed dessert I would pick would be these fun Wookie Cookies I found online with some blue milk!
As a side note- this is actually the first house we have lived in with an open floorplan, and I can't tell you how much I LOVE that. Being able to cook and still feel like I'm in the same room as my family is the best thing ever....
Especially on a lazy Saturday!
But I digress!
I even made the Wookie cookie idea simpler by buying premade cookie dough lol! I just used regular frosting which I piped on the cookies for eyes and a utility belt, and some white chocolate chips for the accents and eyeballs lol..
They turned out cute!
Then.. the blue milk.
Well.
I found this cute video,
And LOVED it. I was so excited!
And LOVED it. I was so excited!
So I thought I followed it to a T. Boiled cabbage. Strained cabbage. Let Sawyer add baking soda and be amazed at the magic of the purple liquid turning blue (it was cool, he thought so too!) Then, I added it to the milk. The only problem with that is, the blue mixed with the white turned it very purple again. Hmmm. So I added quite a bit. And- still purpleish. So I went with a light blue milk. And then-we tasted it. And- you guessed it, it tasted like cabbage. Yuck!
Maybe I used too much of the liquid or didn't add enough baking soda. Either way, it tasted awful, so we didn't have blue milk with our wookie cookies. But there are a TON of other recipe's out there with blue milk, and there's always kool aid! So I will be revisiting this again soon. I'm very interested in learning some ideas on making natural food dye! I planned to save some to use for the cake that we made yesterday for Hudson's birthday- but after tasting the milk I decided to wait until some other time, not a special event, to try this again!
We ended the day on a high note and watched the first episode of the Book of Boba Fett. It didn't disappoint! Boba has been one of Sawyer's favorite characters for a long time now, so we were very excited to start this since we just finished the Mandalorian last week! I highly recommend both!
So since I didn't get to go all out this year, here are some other fun recipes I found online! It looks like next year Star Wars day may be on a Saturday... so perhaps next year we can have a party!
Here's some fun things I found on the web! May the force be with you!
Wookie Cookies!
This CUTE Star Wars Bundt Cake!
Admiral Ackbar Treats!
Porg Cookies!
BB8 Cupcakes!
*Linking up with some fantastic parties! Join the fun!!!
